On Friday my family received 3 separate invitations to my nephew's Engagement Party just after Easter.
*Older daughter and friend (choice of many) :)
*Younger daughter and friend (No luck. She's dateless  - sh'ell come with.....
*"Inna" and Christine - my "friend"
Of course its my sister's doing, and I know I'll be on show as "The Lesbian Auntie" - but I'm excited, as is Chrissie. Just to see our two names on the invitation was so great!! A vindication/recognition of who I am now: the 2010 model.
Its our social "coming out" We talked about the invitation last night and wouldn't miss it for the world. (My sister has many faults, but boy, can she throw a pary!!)
I'm thrilled - she's thrilled - and my daughters are more than content: they want their Mum to be happy!

That is so great! It's wonderful that you are getting the recognition of your relationship. Whether you are going to be shown as the 'lesbian auntie' or not. Its just nice to see someone, you or Christine, getting treated like a loved one not a leper.

I'm a bit of a Christian and I should be raising fire and brimstone, but love conquers all. Bless you, I hope you have a wonderful time.

Hi Guys, :bibounce: I just want to share something with all, but its not to take the lime light.
When I meet my wife 14 years ago, I found out that one of her sister was gay. Now my reaction to this was of 'there must be something wrong with her’. This was mainly due to my upbringing in a small mining town. I had never met nor known a gay or lesbian person before this.
Well my wife and I went on holidays to her sisters. Now I didn’t really know what to expect, as the stereo types of lesbian in the community I grew up, depicted them all as man-haters. Well I didn’t think I was going to enjoy the week there because of this.
Well quite the opposite happen. I really enjoyed the week there. It was amazing on what fun we had. And now we always look forward on visiting or getting visited.

Hi
Now I didn’t really know what to expect, as the stereo types of lesbian in the community I grew up, depicted them all as man-haters. Well I didn’t think I was going to enjoy the week there because of this.

.
Unfortunately gay women (and men) do suffer from those stereo-types that are too often portrayed as the norm.
Man haters? Few gay women are that (there are a very small number, but they are too often portrayed as typical lesbians)
Hate men? I like men. I enjoyed sex with men - I just can't love a man: have a real relationship with him, and sexually being with a woman is just what I want.
I would say I am more typical of lesbians than the stereotype I wrote about above.
Goodness, if you were to see Chrissy and myself - two very ordinary, slightly (repeat SLIGHTLY) overweight, near menopausal Mrs Averages. To anyone looking for any titillation, we would be very boring.
Just because we're gay doesn't mean we're man-haters or dykes or butch. There are some, but plenty of others "like" us.
