Do you think some occupations are more “bi friendly than others” ?I have a degree in Performing Arts with a major in Theatre. Prior to and during college I worked as a medical corpsman/nursing asst.( three years of that in the US Army) After graduation I wound up in the Interior design field where I’ve been more or less for the last 25 years. There was a brief stint as a psychic for about two years.. but a little voice told me to get back into design where I’ve been ever since..Anyways just curious to see if there’s a pattern here in regard to occupations that might seem more bi friendly…especially those that seem for the most part usually dominated by females.

I really don't know the answer to this one, but can say that my occupation (Merchant Marine) is very non-friendly. :2cents: :bipride:

Well, I can tell you that my very straight spouse and his very "manly" friends scoff at a straight man in ice skating (figure skating not hockey), ballet and most forms of dance, interior design (so sorry), nursing is 50/50 (so they say), and so on and so forth. Of course, I try to defend it, but it is difficult. If nothing else, mostly female dominated fields are at least gay or bi friendly. Most of us know about the military's "Don't ask, don't tell" policy. I can't say I disagree, only because I would hope it would decrease the level of gay bashing in the military. In Missouri, we recently had a problem of this anti-gay religious group picketing funerals of American soldiers killed in Iraq and Afganistan, with signs saying they'd go to hell, etc. Now of course that got a huge backlash, but all the government could do was curtail when they could and couldn't picket. I would have to say that the military would not be the place to 'experiment'. Of course, most parents don't want the gay or bi community anywhere near their children, so it's wise to keep a distance. I'm absolutely not saying I agree, but I would say you're less likely to get a bogus excuse for being fired.
I think it's absurd that an individual's sexual preference should come into play for any form of employment, but the fact is it does. Of course in America, if an employer denies you application or fires you for that reason, it's illegal, but who is to say they won't give you some b.s. reason? Is there a middle ground? Is that it? God save us all.

I don't think there are "occupations" that are more bifriendly but there are definitely occupations that attract PEOPLE that are more bifriendly. For instance, people who are in the arts are certainly more tolerant of others than some other more "traditional" occupations. There are always intolerant and tolerant poeple in ALL occupations, so this is only a generalization.

I do mostly HVAC and Electrical work. Only my work partner knows and he keeps it to himself. I've often thought of trying to find a more friendly environment filled with less hillbilly shitheads but I just enjoy my work too damn much. It's challenging, dangerous and exhilirating. Also, quite satisfying (although day to day being an attic rat really wears on one's body and mind). I don't really care if I fit in at the end of the day. My purpose is to be myself. I would however like to get into healthcare at some point. About half the people I work with I think would be totally cool with me. I Just don't want the hassle.

Yes and it's not just not limited to sexual preference. In moving from the North to the South I discovered that within the "Bible Belt" the "good ole boy" network has a very narrow guage of tolerance...I think it's the Pat Robertson mentality...and there's no middle ground there... they've already decided who God's going to save.....Wonder who's going to save God?

personally I think health care industry is pretty open, My wife is a nurse and instructor. It seems a lot of people in the healthcare profession are openminded and outgoing, wife include.... and even better seems like a lot of health care workers are very kinky.... also a plus!

I work in a nursing home where there are many gay/bi people (mostly women) and my mom has worked in several nursing homes where there have been atleast 3 gay/bi women and men.So I guess the health care industry does seem more bi-friendly than most, even here in the "bible belt".

mmm in new zealand the general public doesn't appear to have any true idea about bi's and occupations lol.. but you mention gays, and the general concensus is that of drag queens and wimps that ae busy having anal sex with every guy they meet
I started work as a timber stacker... then went to working at then managing a natural gardening centre
over the years, I have owned and run 5 businesses, taught martial arts, been a writer and poet, mechanic, engineer/weilder, and now i tend to pass the time as a therapist / counsellor/ free psychic
I often used years aof acting experience to play * roles * in my different jobs.... lol including R/P ing a very feminine gay during the time i was instructing martial arts lol
the time i noticed most, the anti gay sentiment was during a stint in the army...lol.... we had a gay gentleman there, that was also the best man with a m-60... yet in the mess hall... most people that met him for the first time.. tought he was a medic..... but were shocked to realise that as feminine as he was... he was no wimp...and at one stage took out the inter platoon boxing champs
I am known as a bisexual and I have noticed that most people don't see any difference between me and a straight male.... and as I say to them.. its cos there is no difference.... and what i do in the bedroom only concerns them if they are in the bedroom with me

I work in a small manufacturing company, and the bi or even gay mentallity is non existant
If it had any more "manly man" type of guys it would be like being at a weekly meeting at the local rod & gun club

I'm a chef. When I was in college, I received a degree in chemistry and was admitted to med school. I dropped out and went to culinary school. when one of my classmates found out he asked...
"Did he TURN GAY?"
Most of the kitchens I've worked in are more like locker rooms!
Ignorant assholes! Who really cares?!!!
