Hi all,

As some of you may know Angie Zapata was killed last year by Allen Andrade.

He was found guilty on all charges, including first degree murder.

http://blogs.westword.com/latestword/2009/04/_the_trial_of_allen.php

He is on record as saying "it wasn't as if he killed a law abiding straight person." That he was glad that he killed "it."

This is the first time in US history that a person has been convicted of a hate crime against a transgendered person.

Rest In Peace, Angie. You will be remembered.

Yeah I saw this yesterday, Hon. I hope the little bastard get his.
May Angie's family find peace with the loving memories of her. :}

You know reading that article just pisses me off so much. I hope the guy gets life in prison and he becomes Bubba's bitch. Towards the end of the article it says:

"In jailhouse calls, Andrade denied knowing Zapata. He also made homophobic comments, telling his girlfriend that "gay things need to die" and saying this: "Gay fool. Tell him I'll kill him too." Andrade's defense attorneys say the comments are being taken out of context. They say Andrade and his girlfriend were "laughing and joking about these things," not saying them maliciously."

Hello.... to me THAT is still malicious I dont care what context its said in or how it was said. Man that just pisses me off. I hope the guy gets his in the end. I hope to hell that jury has enough brains to bust this jackass upside his head.

I'm sure there are one or two transgender women in that prison whose lovers would be thrilled to get a hold of this man. Heck, maybe they would like to speak to the man themselves. You never know, heck he could be forcibly transitioned, then married off to "Prison inmate #667" in a prison style wedding.

Soz.. but justice is not, no matta the crime, 'im becummin a target for community vengeance or sum "Bubba's" shag-bag... deprivation of liberty for long time shud satisfy in that regard... an its no moren 'e deserves...

R.I.P. Angie!! I'm so glad the small minded (and most likely small dicked) little bastard got his. Now one can only hope that the prison Bubba's tear his ass up! Literally. Nothing can bring Angie back - But I hope this scum has years of being some moster dicked inmates toy!! LW

Well said, he did murder her but having him get raped or even executed will not bring the person he killed back and it will not give comfort to this person's family.

Don't bet on that! It won't bring her back and it won't replace all their loss and sorrow. But if I was one of Angies family and I knew that he killed her based upon his twisted homophobia - I would get GREAT joy out of knowing that he was being raped repeatedly.

Truthfully, I dont care what happens to him in prison.

He was found guilty and senteced to life, which is a good thing. I'm glad that the people in my county find the life of a transexual to be of equal worth to theirs.

I'm glad that the people in my county were able to see through the trans-rage defense that the defense attorney tried to use.

It gives me hope. Maybe soon we will recognize that all people have value.

.. and this of course will help eliminate that homophobia and help make our world a safer place... lowering ourselves to the level of the beast or allowing others to do so makes us complicit and therefore beasts ourselves...brutality has no place in society or its institutions and if we allow it, it will come back to haunt us.. as indeed it does. A convicted criminal even a brutal one must have the protection of the law within prison just as much as we should have protected his victims..

The whole thing saddens me so greatly, I want to cry. The man was a child once who grew twisted as he lost his innocence...so much so that Angie paid for her murderer's rage. OMG it's so horribly ugly. And where does the blame lie heaviest, I cannot see. All I can see is poor Angie, innocent of anything but wanting to be herself, paying a terrible price for simply wanting her body to match the rhythms of her heart and soul.

Oh, Angie... I weep for you because the world never knew you as the wonderful person you were, and now can never see you as the woman you wished to be.

Please dont think I have any sympathy with this killer. He will be locked away a long time for an awful crime.. my sympathy are 100% for Angie and with those closest to her. However I do not believe allowing any prisoner to be brutalised while serving his or her sentence does anything to further any cause save that of the brute. The perpetrator may indeed be terrorised, raped and even killed while in prison.. but equally he may carry out the most awful acts on other prisoners who will see the light of day and walk free once again in our society, and whose brutalised experience may be inflicted on the innocent. A viscious circle which will do nothing to help us eliminate the violence which exists and indeed is more likely to exacerbate it.

I am pretty liberal in how I believe our societies penal systems should work. Not because I want to see prisoners get an easy ride, but because I see their experience being wrought on our world and the tragedies which accrue. Many who enter prison are not violent but are brutalised by the system, prison officers and other prisoners and become violent brutes themselves. If, as most of us profess to believe, we insist on the rule of law, that must go for all of our citizens, even those who have lived outside of it and are deprived of liberty. How else can we ever expect to live in a society free of fear and violence?

That Angie was delivered of a violent, awful death does not mean that we should allow an equally awful, possibly worse fate to befall her killer. Lowering ourselves to the most base among us belittles us as human beings and does nothing to improve our world.

I'm so sorry that Angie didn't receive her justice BEFORE her life was taken. But, if there was ever a case for the death penalty, this was one!

If you kill someone, who was not threatening you in any way and you could have walked away from them instead of killing them, you should die!

Why should this parasite live, when a beautiful soul was not allowed the freedom to be and live as she wished? As far as I'm concerned that vicious, mindless bastard deserves to forfeit his life, too!

Take it from me---life in prison is not fun at all----the "perp" of this crime is going to pay again, and again and again and ... till the day he dies in a Colorado penal institution----all state prison systems are pretty rough---but Colorado is one of the tougher ones-----Andrade might wish that he had gotten sentenced to the death penalty and it was done swiftly----he won't have any good days from now on----little solace I suppose for Angie and her family and friends----but such is the nature of "justice" in our land and in our times-----to some in prison--he might be a hero of sorts---but to others---he becomes a target to "get shanked" because he is a high profile prisoner----some young punk who needs some cred with his gangbanger bros--of any gang-- white, black or latino---will be more than happy to do the deed should the word come down to "take the dude out" and "that's that, dog!"

Even going into "Ad Seg"or "protective custody" is no guarantee he won't get taken out by somebody. He committed a murder, so he is always going to be doing time at institutions of high or super max level--at least for the foreseeable future--he would only go down to serve time at mid or lower level classification prisons if he maintains a good behavior record and he lives out 20 or so years at least.

Don't be surprised to read or hear on the radio or TV news---this dude meets a grisly end within the next five years or so---but if he gets beyond that--then he might just live out that life sentence. Not much fun having a life like that--personally--not something I would care to do!!

I am glad that this scumbag's defense attorney was not able to sell a defense that Andrade was somehow justified to be raging to such a degree once he figured out that Angie was trans---- that it was somehow "understandable" that he would be drawn to kill her---it is some measure of comfort that a jury did not accept such a defense as justifiable. Bully for those wise and thoughtful 12 citizens (they said 14 in the article--I am assuming it was 12 actual jurors with two alternates) who did their duty and brought a brigand to justice before the bar by finding him guilty and the judge sentencing him to a long term of incarceration.

Realist - Couldn't agree with you more. Darkeyes - I understand what you are saying and you are right in saying it. All I'm trying to say (and maybe I didn't communicate that well) is this. If the maggot get to prison and NEVER gets raped, beaten or murdered - That's fine - he serves his sentence (although I agree this is a definite case for the death peanalty) But on the otherhand - If he gets to prison and is repeatedly raped, beaten and then murdered - I'm sorry - maybe it makes me less of a human and a brute - or as you worded your post - lowers me to the leavel of a beast - but I won't be able to feel one iota of sympathy for this scum. It's called Kharma and he got his!!! I may be a beast - but it doesn't change the fact that I would think some form of justice has been served - kharmic or otherwise. Just my :2cents: LW

More info comes to light-

Turns out Allen Andrade had signed up as bisexual (on the social network)and they found his DNA on Angie's pink vibrator. It just sickens me to hear that.

This just proves you cant be too careful.

I know, its just so sad and scary. She took every reasonable precaution, and still ended up dead. How sad is that?

Not that it will stop me from being out there. It just makes it harder for me to step out the door, as myself.

Marie,

Yes, certainly be vigilant and attentive to your surroundings, be safe... But please don't be afraid to step out your door as yourself. You are a beautiful lady and if you live in fear... Then lowlife bastards like him win. Don't give away your power, Take it back! Stand tall and proud. Tight hugs! Your Neighbor, Wolfie.
