Some of our Canadian brothers and sisters may know more about this story that I have found.
It was posted on www.Witchvox.com and I just read it a few minutes ago.

WINNIPEG -- Residents rallied Thursday to protect the family of a young man murdered on a Greyhound bus last week from a posse of radical religious protesters planning to portray Tim McLean's death as God's wrath.
Earlier this week, the Westboro Baptist Church - an organization branded as a hate group and infamous for protesting the funerals of slain U.S. soldiers - announced they would picket Mr. McLean's funeral to let Canadians know that his decapitation was God's response to Canadian policies enabling abortion, homosexuality and adultery.
But Shirley Phelps-Roper, daughter of church's founder, Fred Phelps, said a small group of protesters was stopped at the Canada-U.S. border........(more on the link above)

This kind of behavior pisses me off.
I'm canadian, but living in the US now (I was originally from Quebec, not the Winnipeg region).
I'm very happy that religion has become very unpopular where i'm from since the '60s.

They've protested at our church, in front of a grieving family's house and in the local community in general here. Funny thing, generally they end up being a catalyst that has the effect of a unifying force for peace and diversity in the community.
The words of the founder are SO polarized (e.g. "Thank GOD for 9/11") that even bigoted people who might overlook the violence against gays are still appalled by his other statements and stand up against him.
They tried to protest during the funeral of a servicemember in the local community here - a local group of bikers stood between the protesters and the rest of the mourners as a human wall.

I know those bikers. They are the Patriot Guard Riders. Vets all, who take up post between those traitors and the grieving families. If there was a chapter down here, I would probably join.

Thanks Peg.
I'll take a good long look at the site, this afternoon. Maybe there's a chapter here in my area.

Tim McLean was brutally murdered on the greyhound bus by stabbings to the neck. He was decapitated and his head was brought to the front of the bus and dropped so that the other passengers could see it. Tim was cut up in front of the other passengers who escaped into the night. The accused man supposedly also ate some of Tim's body. The other passengers held the bus door closed until the police arrived.
The Phelps stated that he was killed this way because of Canada's laws on same sex marriage and its abortion laws.
The good people of Winnipeg gathered to protect the family at his memorial service. There was no way that the family should have been further traumatized. Tim was only 22 years old and didn't know the man who murdered him. As far as is known, he was a heterosexual young man with no connection to same sex marriage laws. Same sex marriage is legal in Canada because of our Charter of Rights and Freedoms section 15 that deals with equality based upon many things including sex, ethnicity, disability, etc.

BTW, if you ever have an occassion to be near one of these folks - don't touch - they finance their "ministry" with lawsuits brought against anyone who physically confronts them.
When they come here we have a very cool group of folks called "Silent Witnesses" who just stand there - silently in front of the event holding up gigantic rainbow colored golf umbrellas to block out the hate.
They have come here mostly to protest showing of "Jim in Bold" about Jim Wheeler who was a local gay teen who committed suicide and "For the Bible Tells Me So" - a film about religious parents coming to terms with their own gay children.
Why not see if there is a screening near you (shameless plug)

Yeah, these kinds of freaks absolutely drive me mad! I sometimes can't believe I supposedly wake up to 21 century every morning! What's the punishment in Canada for, say, racism? Why not sentence these bastards in the same way? For forgetting where and when they were born? By the way, does anyone remember the infamous Witch Hunt in east coast British colonies in 17 and 18 centuries? Smells like the good tradition of working one's limited self on the vulnerable is still thriving!
