My worst car was my first car, an AMC Concord. I used to go to a local coffee shop where the parking was in the back. After I was there for a bit, someone would rush in and say the food inspector was in the neighborhood, be careful. It had a governor on it, and would not go over 50 mph.

The best car was a VW diesel Jetta. When I drove through state parks, the animals would look up to see what that noise was! But it got just over 50 mpg so I could drive from Cincinnati to the tip of the mitt in Michigan on less than one tank!

Currently driving a very dirty, and not so fashionable Chevy Cavelier, but it's got 150,000+ miles on it and going good. Must go knock on wood....

Oh, and my dream auto would be a gorgeous green diesel club cab extended bed truck with a truck cap. I have plans for building a raised bed in it and having all the other camping equipment stowed below. The club cab makes it big enough to fit in the kids and the silly dog who loves to go camping. I want it to be a diesel so I can run it on used but filtered veggie oil. Plus, I love the sound of a diesel engine...

My fastest was my Toyota MR2
My nicest was my 1977 GMC van with full custom interior.
My strongest was my 1986 GMC General with a 425 Cat over a 13speed overdrive.

My oldest was a 1957 bug.

It was the second cheapest..15 bucks to buy and put on the road..
The 86 caprice was 5 bucks.
We took in to mosport and ran the motercycly trails with it.

I've owned about 20 vehicles..My 96 Sable wagon was written off last month
Now in a 05 Focus..5 speed.. fun to drive..

I can't drive, and consequently have never owned a car.

However, here are some of my current favorites:

As you can probably tell, I have quite a camp, dinky taste in cars. But to even things out, I'll post my favorite vintage sports car:

And my favorite super-car:

Some favorite cars:

1971 BMW 2002
!977 Renault R-5-the "Le Car"
1987 Camaro RS
Several 70s era VW Beetles
1984 Diesel VW Rabbit

While it was not mine--when I was a teenager--some close family friends had an Alpha Romeo--I forget the model number--it was not the Spider--but that was one of the most awesome cars I have ever driven---you could be driving along---think you might be going 70 or so--but look at the speedo and find you were doing 120 or better and the car was on the road like it was on rails---the faster you drove--the better it drove. I also got to drive a number of other Alphas over time--thank goodness they are coming back to the states--but I won't be able to afford one for awhile--they are bringing in two models this year--a hard top and convertible--both run about $250K. Hopefully they will bring some more modestly priced ones too.

Worst cars---
Forget the year but a Chevy Citation--what a total sled!!
Ford Pinto---what was I thinking on that one??

my best: 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan, dark Forest green with tinted windows, loved that beast...it lasted 11 years then everything fell apart at the same time LOL.

worst: Ford Comet 1960-somethin

current: 2004 Toyota Echo-cheap on gas, zippy but small

dream: I had a 1970 Toyota Crown DeLuxe but couldn't afford the brake job and so I had to sell her. *sigh*

I guess this is my subject.
Well these days i mostly drive everything what comes from Fiat (Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Lancia and Maserati).

It's really hard to say which car is best. Every car that i owned or own is good on specific way. Including Mercedes AMG, Zakspeed Mercedes, McLaren F1 GTR, , Renault Megane V8, all til Ferrari 550 Maranello or even Fiat Punto.

But these days the best car that suits me is Alfa Romeo 167.

Oh my..this is right up my alley...it there is something I love as much as sex...it is CARS

I should tell you I love to DRIVE...I think nothing of driving 200 miles to another state for lunch, or to bring Used Bear Chicken Soup.

Best Cars ever.....a 1983 and 1987 Toyota Supras.....I morn their loss. They handled like a dream..could look down and see I was going 100. I would travel the flat road from Providence to Cape Cod at two in the morning cranked up to 125. Alas I was young and foolish and did not take care to change the oil on the first one. Needed a rebuilt engine...first one died at 149K the second at 228K.

I really liked my 1980 Buick Front Wheel Drive Skylark. And my first car a 1972 Baby Blue Chrysler Newport. I used to drive one of my nun teachers in High School around...she was so short and the car so tall that I had a step stool for her.

Love our 2000 Diesel Volkswagon Jetta....you can not kill that car has 300K.

My current car is a 1999 Mercedes Benz S 320 which I bought for 9K from a dead man....or I should say his estate. LOVE it. I am off from Boston to Rochester NY to Toronto Canada to New Jersey to Connecticut next week and had that car all primed for the trip.

I also drive a company Ford Excursion Diesel to go kayaking...ah the memory that that vehicles has for me....cruises like non other.

If I were to win Mega Millions I would find another SUPRA.

1994 Ford Ranger XLT with 4.0L pulling tranmissiom drove like a dream traded for 1996 Ford Ranger XLT with 4.0L pulling tranmissiom put 196,000 miles before I riuned the enigne by "fixing" it. I still have it bought both new

worst
1996 Mercury Sable my wife bought amnd i never liked it I still have it

Current
1989 Ford F-250 with a 460 and pulling trans. Eats oil every 100 mile and get about 12 to the gallon, but i still like it

Dream
New Ford F-350 Super Duty King Cab Diesel.
p.s.
I would like to drive a car a car like a SSC Ultimate Areo, or a Koenigsegg CCX so I can drive a production car over 250 MPH.

My very favorite car was my Acura Legend....it was a beautiful car and drove so well....and at the time I didn't realize it would end up being my last regular car for a long time....afterwards I got stuck driving the ultimate Mom mobile...the SUV....had a string of those...Acura, Mitsubishi Montero, Dodge Durango!

My next favorite car was the first one I got when I was able to graduate from the SUV...my Audi A6 Station Wagon....what a great car but unfortunately, due to a design flaw and my inability to slow down over speed bumps, I ended up busting the oil pan twice (on the same speed bump, no less) and that was quite an expensive "oops"!

Worst car was my 1974 Ford Pinto...it was a cute little car but had very little pick up and then turned out to be a possible blazing inferno! But it got me back and forth to college and luckily I didn't have anyone slam into the back of me! As soon as my parents read about the exploding Pinto, they forced me to take my mother's car, a 1974 Buick LeSabre....talk about a land yacht!! But it was a good looking car....just could barely afford the gas to run it during the time I drove it....1978-1980....my husband said he would marry me but not my car! LOL!

I am presently driving a 1993 Mercedes 300CE...it's a beauty of a car and so very classic in regards to the Mercedes style of old....it's comfortable for long trips and since I own it outright...no need for concern over mileage like my former leased cars....Guess I'll drive this one until it finally gives out!

Hugs,
Kate

I did not own one-but another fun vehicle to drive was a 'Mini Moke" --I drove them back when I was down in the Caribbean in the 80s--I had rented them when I would be in Bridgetown, Barbados---they were basically a Mini Cooper that looked more like a Jeep or VW Thing--they were open with striped canvas tops---usually they were red----it was fun whipping around those things on the windy curvy roads out in the Barabadian countryside.

As far as a current dream car----I would probably like to get one of the new Alphas coming out and a car I do need to get some day---either a 1963 or '64 Cadillac Coupe De Ville convertible-----hopefully either the bluish-gray or that pale metalllic green color they had with a white leather interior.

What a car that was----long and lean but they still had the last vestiges of tailfins---and man---could they scoot. My parents had a couple of the Sedan De Villes of that era when I was a kid----and I loved those cars.

A Porsche 911 Turbo Targa is still an awesome car too!!

A new Cadillac CTS-V is going to be one hot car and so is the new 2009 Jaguar XF.

What a great thread !

Best: I think my first car qualifies as one of my favorites, if not THE favorite, even though it was undoubtedly one of the worst cars I've ever owned. It was a 1959 Buick Invicta. (this was about 1974) 1959 was the height of Detroit's styling excess. This car had fins that could impale you. It had slanted, double headlights, and an enormous chrome "alligator" grille, the combination of which served to make the car look like it was snarling at you, and totally pissed off about something. There was enough room in the back seat for a mid-sized orgy, not that I ever got that lucky as a 16 yr old. But I was ready, dammit ! It was so big I had to park it in 2 different zip codes.
If you remember a news story a few years ago, about a bunch of Cubans who fled Cuba in a makeshift boat made out of an old car, that was a '59 Buick Invicta. To top it off, my Buick was 2-tone pink and white. lol
Other faves......I've owned 2 Toyota Supras. An '82 and an '87. Both were enormously fun to drive. I wish I still had them. I also once owned a 1970 Mercury Cougar with a 351 Cleveland V-8. The car was very needy, mechanically speaking, but had such a powerful engine I just loved tearing around in it, burning gas. it. I had an old Plymouth Valiant, with a Slant-6 engine that is probably still running today. Not sexy, but Slant 6's would run forever. I also had a Canadian-built 1971 Ford Pinto, the first year for the Pinto. It had a tiny little underpowered 4-cylinder, and a rusted out floorboard thru which one could see passing pavement, but it ended up being one of the most reliable cars I ever owned. SO reliable in fact, that based on my good luck with that one, I bought a new one in 1977. (American built) That turned out to be the single worst car I have ever owned. I could not keep it out of the shop.
My current vehicle is a 2004 Nissan Altima 2.5S. I've had it since it was 6 months old & it now has 104,000 miles on it. I highly recommend this car. It has been one of the most trouble-free, reliable cars I've ever owned. Tons of interior room, and fun to drive.
Dream car ? Hmmm, that's a tough one, but I'm thinkin' I'd want my old Buick back, totally restored to showroom condition. That was a bad-ass car.
Oh...and since we're dreaming....I'll need my own gasoline refinery to be able to afford to drive it. I think it's fuel economy was measured in yards per gallon.

My favorite was a 65 Studebaker Champ. Didn't even know Studebaker made pickups til I saw this beast. Loved that truck, but eventually lost it due to neglect cause I couldn't afford the repairs. My worst rig is a little harder to pinpoint as I've had several POS cars over the years, but I'd probably say 86 Isuzu Trooper II. It was falling apart & a nightmare to work on. I'm currently driving an 88 Thunderbird with a 5.0 It's beautiful inside and out and goes like a bat out of hell. Lots of fun to drive, but I want to cry every time I see a gas station. I'm currently commuting on the bus because driving to work costs me $35 a day. My dream car would be a 58 Vette, red on black.

Best: I owned a 86' BMW 735 at one point, it was pretty awesome

Worst/current: Mazda MX-6, I have had nothing but issues with this car!

Dream: I have two, one I am hoping to get in the near future...the other is going to have to wait...

Dream Auto...1975 Corvette...in mint condition

There's one of those in the Carolina Bargain Trader this month. It's black, and dead sexy... *drool*. Not sure if it's mint, but damn, it looks nice.

Ok, now for my cars...

Dream Auto: Corvettes! Those and classic American muscle... maybe even an old Rolls Royce... hell even a new Rolls...

Current Auto: 1985 Buick LeSabre estate wagon (aka The Beast), 1999 Buick Century custom sedan, and a 1998 Hyundai Accent.

Worst Auto: My 1994 Grand Am (and other friends Grand Ams for various reasons), and anything rented from U-Haul.

I've also owned a 1992 Buick LeSabre custom sedan (sold it), a 1983 Chevy pick-up (power steering went out, so I sold it), and a 1997 Nissan 200SX (engine started to fail after 255000 + miles, so I sold it to a guy who had a spare engine for it).

OOOOHHH I Love cars!
Best: Love my 1987 Chevy s-10.. all jacked up, big ole tires, fun in the mud...

MOST FUN: borrowed a Trans Am this morning... 6 speed, V8, deep rumbly exhaust, vrrroooommmmm..... and any jeep I can get my dirty little hands on.

Worst: 1970 VW Bug... no heat, no floors, and occasionally no motor because that was the easiest way to work on the damn thing, 2nd worst Ford Escort.. again no floors...

Current: "Gargantua the Beast" an 02 Chevy Suburban... don't get much bigger than that... did I mention 2 mpg?

Dream Auto...
porsche 911 OR have you seen the new Dodge Challenger???? not really a Chrysler fan BUT I bet that thing screws....

I will willingly drive any automobile that comes by thats not a focus or a prius or a corolla... icky sedans and econoboxes... (though good on the gas mileage) I'll fly on winding back roads, or rock crawl through the woods... Bring it... I love to drive!

My best car has to be the one I am driving now . "94" GEO Metro . 58 mpg !
I have over 200,000 miles on this thing . Other than routine maintenance , the most I have ever had to do is replace the timing belt .

My favorite car was my ol' "68" Plymouth Satillite . 318 , 3 speed with posi-track rearend . Couldn't kill it . Green with grey poka dots . ( bodywork spots )

My worst car ever is no contest at all . Any Ford I have ever owned . Two of the damn things . Will never buy another .

My best pick up would have to be the "76" Datsun king cab 2 wheel drive . Pulled quite a few 4 X 4 s out of the ditch with that ol' girl . The back half of it is now my utility trailor .

Current car's a '95 Saab 900, and it's also my first.

My ideal car is actually a truck - I would love a battered, red Toyota Hilux. One of the older models that doesn't want to be an SUV.

I fell completely in love with them after Top Gear tried to destroy one using any means thay could, but it still kept working.

I have been thinking the last couple of years that I am sorta bummed by two developments in automotive design relating to some past, hard core SUV type vehicles.

I speak of the way two such vehicles morphed from being motor conveyances you would see in the deepest, darkest wilderness areas of the world like deserts and tropical rain forests among the most obvious examples--those vehicles are how the Toyota Landcruiser and the Range/Land Rover both went from hardcore machines designed to handle some of the most extreme conditions on the planet.

Now those vehicles have become Luxo-cruisers more likely to be found at a Hollywood opening, going to the countryclub or in some toney shopping center as opposed to going through muck in some tropical forest or clmbing a sand dune in the Kalahari---

It is great that the respective companies make the more civilized versions--but while I have never gone to those sorts of extreme environments like the Amazon, some Indonesian forest or way out in the outback of Australia--but if I did--I don't care if the vehicle that gets me there and I am relying upon to help keep me and my party alive has fancy leather seats and automatic climate control----I just want to know the thing is tough and rugged and is going to get me back to civilization-in fact under the circumstances--I want an interior covered with material that you can take a high powered hose and wash out when done with the trip.

I hope that they still make such versions of those vehicles--but going to the website for Rover and Toyota--I have not found that either company still makes the hardcore, rugged versions of these vehicles----a turn of events I think is a bummer.

Both companies seemed to feel that had to take these vehicles "up scale" which is fine for driving down the expressway--but to me--they somehow lost a bit of the soul of what these vehicles were in that they no longer make the versions more suited to "the bush" than carrying around celebrities or heads of state.
