View Full Version : Sex Toys: Are You Pro or Con???

Sapphrodite
Sep 24, 2007, 7:30 PM
There seems to be many threads that talk about specific toys in regards to certain sex acts but not a general toys thread. Thought I'd start one where we can all add the pros and cons of specific toys (or sex toys in general) and share as much information as possible, which will hopefully prevent poor choices in toys or add to someone else's experiences.

Hmmm ... so what to post?? Any Ideas?? Here's a few:
- great or satisfying toys and why
- poor or dissatisfying toys and why
- why you like / dislike about sex toys
- questions about certain toys (like FYI before you buy)
- questions or comments on toys for specific purposes (anal, gspot, etc)
- comments about the use of toys vs virginity, culture, etc.

We all seem to be either Pro-Toy or Anti-Toy, depending on our personal preferences - it can also be part of our social or religious culture or upbringing to find them acceptable or not. As a suggestion, use the "Thumbs Up" http://main.bisexual.com/forum//images/icons/icon14.gif or "Thumbs Down" http://main.bisexual.com/forum//images/icons/icon13.gif icons below to indicate your general position on Sex Toys when replying to this thread. And as a Reminder, please do not use the thread to slam the other members: if you disagree with something in their post, then argue the comment not the person!

I really look forward to hearing everyone's comments!!! :bibounce:

I didnt want to see overly biased in my opening post, so I'm expressing my Pro-Toy attitude as a separate thread. Here is a wonderful quote relating to the topic, found in "Good Vibrations Guide to Sex" by Cathy Winks and Anne Semans:

"Please allow us to set the record straight: a Dildo is not a Penis Substitute any more than riding a bike is a substitute for taking a stroll. A Dildo is an object which allows you to penetrate yourself or your partner in a marvelous variety of ways. Dildos are a logical, dare we say, natural response to the fact that while many of us enjoy having our vaginas or anuses filled, no two of us have exactly the same preferences in terms of the length, width and shape of the object filling us...

"Why should our experiences with penetrations be defined by the dimensions of our current partner's penis or fingers? Few of us limit out dining experiences to eating only what is in the refrigerator at home. Think of dildos as the take-out food of the sexual realm: they offer novelty, spice up your routine and teach you about the range of your appetites."

On a personal note, I enjoy occasional toy use (mostly solo but sometimes with other women) to add some variety and interest to my own sex life. I find I can relax alone and I'm not worried about trying something new or making a fool of myself. I've been able to learn more about my own body: I knew the basic functions but no the the 'fun' parts, since I was raised with the ideal of 'no sins of the flesh' (aka no masterbation and no penetration / hanky panky outside of wedlock). It has also allowed me to be expressive with others and provide them with experiences that have ultimately created closer bonds because of the trust required.

Unfortunately for me, I ended up buying a lot of really crappy toys before finding ones that were both satisfying and well-suited for its purpose - toys always appear to work better in porn than they actually do. We're not all made the same inside, that and well they're getting paid to make them look good!! LOL!!!

That being said, I have made a few posts about toys in other threads:
* Strap-ons: http://main.bisexual.com/forum/showthread.php?p=58597#post58597

* The Pleasures of Anal Sex: http://main.bisexual.com/forum/showthread.php?p=62205#post62205

* Please add any other threads about Toys in this thread to act as a one-stop resource.

Ok

I'm pro, I think that when ever / whatever works for you. However I do recommend that safe sex practices be followed.

Do Not put anything in your rectum/annus that might get "lost" or broken.

Best toy for me I think came from the kinky cobbler(friend 1), a sillicone dildo.

I have tried all sorts of different things. Never had good luck with vibrators, prefer the sensation of just penetration alone. Vibration doesn't do anything for me neither does the rotating thing-a-ma-jig (a technical term).

Was never real good at the prostate finding/stimulating...I know it should be there butt?

Tried plugs, maybe they'd be better with a partner?

Beads have been enjoyable, but they are a pain to clean.

ummm that's about it.

I'm pro on the toys, but I'm an amateur. I leave all the selecting up to my man, who's really into them. But I know a good vibrator is hard to beat.

Hafta agree with Darkeyes, nothing replaces the emotional and physical sensation of your partner. Toys can enhance that, but they can't create it.

All types of them.

Even ones used for bondage/SM or other things.

Guess I'll pipe in and be the con.

Hold the rotten tomatoes however, there is legitimate reason. It's suggested that toys are take out. That's fine and well, I enjoy take out food like most folks. That's it though, food, not some hunk of artificial phallus inserted into my anus.

That said, there is exception to my being con to toys. I love when a lover who is skilled in the use of anal beads applies themselves, and said beads. But, that all revolves on the lover, situation and mood.

Sorry, I'd just rather have a solid 'meal at home' opposed to the 'take out'. Rubber, plastic or other materials can't offer loving embraces. And i think it comes back to that for me. Need the love with my sex, please.

Argue self love all you wish. I do love myself, but that doesn't infer degrading that love with use of artifice. That's mho, fwiw.

DDBMA/VoidDweller-What if the toy that you're being fucked with is being used by someone you're romantically involved with and you're not alone?

Or what if the person who is using it on you has trouble getting/maintaining an erection or can't get one at all since they don't have a penis?

I do not like toys or the "real thing" in my ass!!!
Otherwise, I am ambivalent about toys, because I very much prefer the real thing.
If I was with a partner that wanted to use them, it would be ok with me unless it caused pain.
Most important, I do not want anything in my ass!!!

LMAO Jem - nobody said it had to be an up-da-bum toy!!! Men who reply are likely to take about anal sex toys because they're bi, but their toys could also include cock rings, cuffs/restraints, blindfolds, whips and other stuff, as well as masterbation sleeves and other fun things!

But there are lots of girlie things that dont go anywhere near yer bum! I love my pocket rocket and a few other things that I occasionally use during sex to heighten the sensations or to use during foreplay. I prefer the use of my toys when I'm with someone, as an aid not a crutch: I'm just as happy to leave them in their cute little carry case and have fun without them, but once in a while it's fun to spice things up!

And in the instances when I go solo: I'd rather go ahead and use my toys to scratch the itch when hubby and I arent sharing the same sex drive (aka he's in neutral and I'm in overdrive... LOL) - beats being distractingly horny!!!!

Agreed.

I meant mostly restraints/blindfolds/floggers/crops/cockrings/stretchers/plugs/vibrators/etc. when I meant toys.

Who says that the toys have to be used inside you?

I prefer to use toys in others (if they're designed for that), than have them used inside me.

Also you can use vibrators externally and to me they feel a lot better that way than the prostate vibrators designed for internal sex.

Well. here is my two cents..

We have a collection of toys....so much so that they over flow the boxes. Many of them were purchased at places that did not you to take them out of the packages to feel them....they ended up being cheap, or rough, to hard, to soft.

When I discovered Grand Opening in Boston three years ago, that changed. There you could touch everything. All of the toys and related items...i.e...condoms ( were open so you could touch and feel), lubes ( so you could touch, smell and taste), hear (if the vibes were too loud. For me that was the turning point. I have bought things that looked interesting and to this day can not remember what they are used for..(I have a wicked memory).

I learned all about lubes there and just how much they can add to your lovemaking. Who would have thought that a little squirt here or there would make the slide and glide SO much better. There are some basic info that is needed too...never mix silicone lubes with silicone products. Clean and DRY all items scrupulously. Store in containers with no place for lint to get in...I used to keep my things in decorator cloth wine bags..some have lint..be careful, hard to take off a cyber skin. They also give good tips...do you know that you should dust any item made of cyber skiing with corn starch to keep them not tacky after you wash them? I shall pass along that little hint.

I do not really use anything alone....but I do think that they can add SO much to lovemaking....

I love toys. They don't replace a person, but they can add to the experience.

Get creative! Textured penis sleeves don't need to be worn only on a penis, put em on your fingers and tease your partner's whole body (lube helps, too). Vibrators aren't just for sticking in orifices, tickle the non-genital erogenous zones with it. My husband likes it when I use a sleeve or cockring to attach a vibrating egg to my hand and play with his balls.

Use some common sense, too. Wash your toys, don't put anything in anyplace that it would get lost, don't use broken/damaged things.

Became pro toy about 3 months ago. Prior to that had not purchased anything in YEARS. Then, they were cheap or just yuck and I was not about to spend lots of money.
Nowadays there is so much more to the comfort level.
I love the kind with little knobs all over and gentle vibration. I have a rather large dildo that hits the g-spot just so when my partner assists. Yes, there is a definite enhancement in pleasure there!
I have used them alone for stress relief sake and because hubby was traveling for an extended period of time.

Being a woman, the two types that matter to me specifically are toys that stimulate the bits that need stimulating, and toys that essentially, are used to penetrate.
I agree with the earlier statement that toys are not a penis substitute (tho sometimes, they come close )

My hubby and i use them sporadically to have a bit of fun, but they do gather a lot of dust from just lying unused for long periods in my bottom bedside drawer. (And yes, my daughters know of them, but discreetly say nothing.)

If I'm with a lady with whom I know well and am comfortable with, yes, we often use toys (hers) - probably with greater frequency and a greater variety.

Of course I'm pro - but as long as one doesn't lose sight of the fact - they're toys. And toys are for fun!

DDBMA/VoidDweller-What if the toy that you're being fucked with is being used by someone you're romantically involved with and you're not alone?

If there were romantic involvement, and the toy wasn't the whole issue, then i might enjoy the experience. But, a toy for the sake of a toy only, sorry not my cup of tea. It defeats the whole issue of romance you suggest being present.

Or what if the person who is using it on you has trouble getting/maintaining an erection or can't get one at all since they don't have a penis?

I can understand not being aroused, face that also. See my reply above. If there were romance and it wasn't all merely the toy, fine. I can compromise. If they lack penis, I'd hope they were a woman and I was in the mood for a woman. Sorry, had bad experience with a woman and the use of a toy, again it got down to being toy for toy sake, no romance. And I don't ask my wife. That's not her cup of tea. And no, I don't feel slighted in that. She lets me enjoy guys, if that's even possible for me at this point, as long as I'm honest with her and upfront.

I say at this point, because it seems no one wants to bother. That's fine guys, your lose really. At any given, I guess the issue for me is the romance, intimacy, physical bodies being close, love and of course the great sex. If toys fall into that a little with the right guy, that's alright. But, first it would seem I'd need the right guy. And before he's found, no toys.

I personally don't see anything wrong with enhancing the experience with toys.

Interestingly, I've known women who are unable to achieve orgasm by simple penetration alone. Those women have found some sort of vibrator alone or in combination with penetration as the only reliable way to achieve orgasm. If I understand correctly, that's not entirely uncommon for many women - nor is it necessarily a symptom of lack of skill of the woman's partner.

Others more versed in the physiology of sex from the female perspective can address that better than me, however.

Up untill very recently i was a "toy virgin". A special person has introduced me to them, strictly as an enhancement. Baby steps, but i am thinking that they certainly have their place, and from my brief first experience, i am PRO.

Toys are fine *within the proper context*. Personally I tend to be more organic in my lovemaking. Vibrators are great but fingers and/or tongues can usually do a better job for me.

The one toy that is an exception to that is the Feeldoe. The engineering is so amazing I can't even really call it a toy. It does take a little practice to get used to, but once your muscles are trained to hold it in place, oh...my...god. It's amazing the positions that can be accomplished with it once you've got the knack.

I am definitely Pro Sex Toys. I find they are fun to use to spice up things with your partner(s). Vibrators feel especially nice when gently used at the base of the cock and underneath the balls. Plus I never met a women who did not enjoy a vibrator strategically applied to her clit while she was being eaten out. Sex toys are a big plus. :male::male::bipride:

Oh I am Definately Pro-Toy! Not only are they a means to satisify yourself, but they are wonderful to share with a lover, as well. To add a toy to a play time is a great thing. Not only can you stimulate and tantalize a lover, you can also give them a great deal of pleasure before they in turn use it upon you! It can enhance play time, and create a longer lasting time as well.
And, if you happen to be alone and need some "Stress relief" toys are a great option too..lol

Toys are good sometimes. I just have two... a bullet and a vibrator. :) I've used them alone and with others, and they work great... the bullet seems to be great as an "intimate use" toy, (s)he can touch and kiss me while it's being used and I can use it right back.

Strap ons strike me more as "tools of the trade" than anything else. :p

I found that its either a hit or miss with toys. It depends on the user, there body type, size, etc, everyones different.

I personally love most anal toys, most of them are large not huge I like like them larger then normal, I like the filled feeling. Jelly butt plugs, beads, and dongs are hit the spot. I bought a blow up vibrating butt plug a while ago its nice, but I don't like the fact that its really hard when not inflated. But it does give a good stretch and fills up nicely once its pumped up.

but that's my name!!

Handcuffs, candles (carefull, some candles burn a bit too hot), icecubes, blindfold, cold steel (esp if it's sharp), riding whips, bunnies are good but the older models break ie the purple "deluxe" . Yeah I guess I'm pro.

I think a bit of dominance and playfulness in your partner goes a long way.

I wish they'd put a bunny on the Anne Summers Tornado and make it waterproof and rechargable.

I find soft vibrators useless, the vibration is not transferred from the motor to the top of the vibrator, and there for not much sensation in it.
Cockrings you have to put on before you get a hard on. A bit hard to know. If used too long it can be painful. Otherwise good. But my favourite is anything with mint in it. Rub your dickhead with mint flavoured toothpaste like Close UP, or suck on a strong mint when you give someone head is totally awesome for the person receiving, and you would never they came in your mouth.

Any of the silicone toys from Tantus. A lot of leather is HOT too.
Most non-silicone toys (especially the ones that smell bad).
Great for "practice", self-exploration, and just plain fun.
Anyone actually own a "fucking machine"?
I have found some "g-spot" toys work great on my "p-spot". Haven't found any toys that stimulate my penis in any interesting way.
Virginity is over-rated. And don't get me started on the anti-sex people, I'm sure I'd offend someone...

I have tried 5 different models of Aneros and while they feel good getting one to give you a prostate orgasm takes quite a bit of practice and training. I do better with p spot toys that vibrate. I like the one's made by California Exotics. The best way to get a prostate orgasm is to have someone massage your prostate that knows how it's done.

I love sex toys. I have so many, sex is never boring. I also consider cock rings to be sex toys and have a bunch of them. I have six or seven dildos of varying sizes. And five Fleshlights. Two other sleeve type masturbation toys. Since I am mostly just solo, it's really the only thing that keeps me going and gets me horny. Of the six Fleshlights, one of them is so good! It feels like the best pussy you ever had. I'm 59 and still have premature ejaculation when using that one. Just last night when I got home from work.

Pro toy for certain!

My husband and I have tried quite a few over the past several years find our personal favorites over time weeding out the eeehhhh ones. Even the ehhhh ones were fun to at least try. Experimenting is almost always fun and practicing is much needed for some sex acts. I used sex toys for practice in my early years, I never wanted to be a poor lover. And there is no way I am able to handle anal if I do practice, even after all these many years of doing it anally, I still have to practice.

As I matured I used toys for not only practice but of course for pleasure and of course for show. I enjoy showing off what I can do sexually and with another body in the way my husband cannot always see what I am able to do and vice versa.

We are extremely visual and both love having that amazing picture in our mind of what might be taking place here and there, when we are unable to see clearly exactly what is happening. Even after we have had sex with a person we love to see as close a representation using sex toys of what took place. We met a few couples who have the most amazing lighting, mirror, and camera set ups (much better than ours) and even then sex toys gave us much better visuals of what we looked like being penetrated.

Sex machines have been an amazing addition as have strap ons. I love love love being double penetrated and I also love love love spreading my man for them as well as being spread for them. We get some of the best live visual ever! Long thick wall and suction toys provide an adequate job and visual as well as same sized hand held or riding toys.

Over all I would have to say strap ons with a huge variety of dildo shapes, sizes, curves, ridges, bumps, etc are my overall favorites, getting a different feel from each one as my husband is also penetrating me is AMAZing!!!

My husband agrees with me about our strap on sex and play. Though the real deal is way better (via all our holes - especially since the real deal is filled with oh so yummy creamy thick cum) as for toys strap ons do quite the trick.

I love to fuck Fleshlight pussies! My favorite of these pussies to fuck is the Stamina Training Unit Lady Orifice: Stamina Training Unit™ Lady – Fleshlight (https://www.fleshlight.com/products/stamina-training-unit).
I use this pussy together with my SexxxTrainer {HANDS FREE MASTURBATION - REAL SEX SIMULATOR - allknight.com (https://allknight.com/products/male-masturbators/hands-free/sexxxtrainer/)} Barrel.
Using SexxxTrainer, I regularly practice fucking the pussy in a variety of real sex positions! I always wear my favorite cock ring too:
THE HARDWEAR HORSESHOE COCKRING - allknight.com (https://allknight.com/products/cock-enhancers/rings/horseshoe-cockring.aspx).
I wear it for sex but also as my regular innerwear. I take off the ring only for sleeping because I have trained to be able to wear the cock ring all day!

I already had a fleshlight...got that when they were a relatively new thing...I treated myself to some plugs, a pea cannon (look it up, if you don't know, pretty good simulation of a blowjob), and a dual density dildo with harness (can't wait to get my wife in on this fun). I chose a dildo really close to my own cock, figure I'm average, maybe a bit bigger than average (not king dong, but not tiny tim either)...great for practicing sucking cock!

So pro - without toys we cannot practice, try new things to see how it goes, stretch to learn to handle that one big real deal that always comes along here and there. Toy most definitely help us prepare better, plus one does not always feel up for sex and it is nice to have a lot more options for the spouse when one of us is not up to par.

I've been wanting to try a masturbation sleeve, might investigate the pea cannon. Is it easy to clean afterwards? I have eyeballed the Fleshlight, pricey but great reviews. Would love to hear your review of the pea cannon, looks short? Full insertion possible? Vibrations sounds like a nice touch

Absolutely. That's how I look at them, too. I would have been way less experienced with certain parts of my body without toys.

I'm definitely pro, as I've got my prostate plug in right now! It's heavy steel, about 10 oz, and I'm sitting up right. Alternating between checking on non-sexual things and porn. This thing is awesome. My wife doesn't know I play with it some times without her, but we have played together with it. It was awesome fucking her while wearing it, because it moves more, just from my body motion. Also, when I cum my asshole works it in and out very hard. It fucks my prostate so nicely. Mmmmmmmmmm. Maybe I'll surprise her with it in my ass one night this week. Bring her a drink after work naked and then turn around and reach for something on the floor.
