Hey everybody

Below is a link to a petition that is asking for Tony Blair to ask for the UN to decriminalise homosexuality

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/IDAHO-Petition/

"In this day and age there are nearly 80 countries in the world where it is a criminal offence to be homosexual," Reads the petition.

"We ask the United Nations to request a universal abolition of the so-called "crime" of homosexuality, of all sodomy laws, and laws against so-called "unnatural acts" in all the countries where they still exist.

There is more information on the website so please have a look and sigh it xx.

Thanks

Hopefully this measure--if passed by the UN might help change some laws in some countries but the problem in many places is that even if the law protects homosexuals (by extension--anyone not hetero)---it cannot change social and cultural mores and practices in many places where it is considered by the people--well and proper to at least harass if not kill those who engage in non-heterosexual behavior.

I don't know what the laws are like in Jamaica, but for locals on the island who are non-heterosexual and wish to pursue such a life-they cannot remain because there are many individuals who take it upon themselves to kill "faggots."

Under such social conditions---even if there are legal protections in place for non-straight people--the police and the courts often look the other way and simply don't arrest and prosecute those who take violent action against non-straights.

But the measure is a start---perhaps one day there will be true peace and justice nearly everywhere.
