and here I was thinking that your risk of catching aids had more to do with your sexual practises..... lol
i am now more at risk of catching aids than a uncircumcised person... ever tho i am celibate
excuse me if I laugh at the study, but i see no mention of safe sex or unsafe sex, sexual orientation or any other means of hiv virus transference usch as blood transfusions and drug use

What if female circumcision also reduces the risk of diseases?

Oh, good lord... this has GOT to be a joke.. I'll put this right up there with the "Gay Disease" of the early 1980's.
I have had a good number of my friends die of AIDS and I have a bunch more who are HIV+. What number of them are cut or uncut, I don't know, but I'm willing to bet you that a majority of them had circumsized cocks.
The best prevention there is... SAFE SEX.

"In an "extraordinary development" in the fight against
AIDS, a medical journal article published Friday says that conclusive data shows there is no question circumcision reduces men's chances of catching
HIV by up to 60 percent."
My ass.

heh, well I guess thats a bit of silver lining on my situation. As an update by the way, I did go to see a second urologist and he said about the same thing as the first. So I decided to go through with the full circumcision. I have a surgery date in the second week of April

I prefer being intact. As long as you practice proper hygiene, circumcision is totally pointless.

I agree with you 90%. However there is a few instances where circumcision is important. For example, my foreskin is to tight and the part that attaches it to the head is to short. This prevents me from fully retracting the foreskin which causes pain during any kind of sex involving thrusting, and there is a risk of the foreskin ripping. In this case it is necessary. So for medical reasons it makes sense. But if it was only done for medical reasons, than only about 1% of guys would be circumcised, which means that anyone who saw a cut penis would see it as mutilated and deformed. So Im glad thats not the case lol
PS. (ooo, this is my 300th post! Wow, I feel like I just joined)

Everytime anything about circumcision comes up, I've noticed it brings up a lot of strong feelings for a lot of people.
It's a shame we're not more comfortable as a society talking about penises - this has got to be one of the most emotionally charged subjects out there!
People generally take what could be a relatively objective discussion way too personally too. I wonder how many folks who give their strong opinions on this subject have actually looked at the studies?
I've looked at the studies, and they seem legit. My main thought was that, gee, if you circumcize a man in adulthood, that sure could put a damper on his sex life lol! So yes, this might easily be an intervening variable in the study that explains why the men they circumcised didn't get the HIV virus at the same rate - they were having less sex.
Otherwise, the studies in question seem really well done...

By that logic children should be forced to have their adanoids, tonsils and appendicis out as well. I had my appendix out and it was bloody painful. It was about to burst but I wouldn't have it out just because of some study.

Never believe anything, any study that comes fom a medical profession that lives by the need to make profit and not from the motive of altruism. Not my words, but truthspeak nevertheless.
