What would you do if you saw a freezing child?

We set up a hidden camera and placed Johannes at a bus stop, in Oslo, Norway. This is what happened.

The film is made to raise awareness of the situation for children in Syria, and to raise funds to SOS Children's Villages is their winter-campaign.

If you hit the bottom CC button you may get the translation to English.

Man, that got to me! Some of those folks gave up their coats, even if they had little underneath!

I feel empathy for those in need, but don't always respond, I'm sorry to say. I see people panhandling, begging for money, or food and I've bought food for some of them, who I felt were genuinely in need......I won't give them money.

But, If I smell alcohol on them, or suspect they're high, I'll pass them by.

I'm not sure why, but I have always thought that the Scandinavians were more concerned for their fellow man than many Americans are. My dad had a friend from Denmark, who was one of the kindest, most caring, people I ever knew.

I tired to get the address for the Syrian children, but a cookie covered most of the translation and the address.

Why not post it?

Hi Realist
Under the video on youtube it gives this web site to donate to Syrian children without winter clothing.

http://www.sos-barnebyer.no/syriahelp

There are six days left in this campaign. I'm not suggesting that anyone donate as that is their right to decide.

That website states that there has been $281 000 donated so far.

I too am reluctant to give to street people. I was in Toronto on Friday and had two people approach me for money. One was a woman who appeared be fairly well dressed with a good winter coat on. (unlike the child in the video). I said no to the three people even though I thought of this video..it just seems a bit different?

Thanks, I'm gonna check into it....I want to be confidant that the money's not going to be diverted from the kids. Kids certainly need someone looking out for them.

Very good point Realist
I tried to get past the donation page and the English ends and Norwegian begins. I was wrong as more than two million kroner has been donated. Maybe, there is a known charity like the red cross who may be involved in getting clothing for the children in refugee camps of Syria. Oh, well, it looks like good news in the Ukraine.

I'd give them my coat, and ask if they were lost and take them to the police if they said their parent or guardian was not around. Charities like the Norwegian one posted about and especially the Red Cross just take all of the money donated, as it's all tax free to them and they use it to pad their own pockets, pay employees, and keep them running as an organization. Very little if any help, aid, food, clothing, etc. goes to people who the said charities even in Norway and the Red Cross (both American RC and International RC) claim they'll help.
