I just published a book of bisexual short stories using some of the services over at Amazon--both paperback and electronic media. A Kindle book is fairly easy to set up. And paperbacks are printed as they are ordered. I'm curious if anyone has tried this and what kind of success you had. My Kindle version will be free for the next few days if anyone is interested in checking it out. I'm not going to give the title so I don't violate any rules against spam but it's a collection of 13 short stories.

Very nice; I'll have to get one in paperback since I don't have kindle. I'm planning on writing a book myself concerning sexuality; primarily bisexuality. It will address all the taboos that plague different sexualities apart from being heterosexual. I know it will be quite controversial too even amongst bisexuals as it will address promiscuity in a positive light rather than the usual negative attitudes associated towards it. It will address and explore the reasons why such negative feelings are attached to promiscuity but also shed light in how it can be negative too...a lot of work ahead of me but I'm looking forward to it.

You don't have to own a Kindle. Amazon has a viewer for your PC. While it's free, it seems to be downloaded at the rate of about 100 per day which I find very interesting. I'll go ashead and give the name--"Grasslands." That way you don't have to PM me.

I write, but I haven't tried to publish, even doing what you describe above. My stuff's all been on various free erotica sites (Literotica, Eroticstories, Storiesonline)

Not sure you could use Smashwords to publish or not given the subject matter. They also sell via Amazon's services. Be safe and triple check all the fine print in regards to subject matter, regardless of who offers to publish it.

I have read of many authors now, going the route of self publishing because it's better. One guy turned down a traditional publisher's offer of half a million. He sold twice that just in ebook sales in a week.

Not always that an author is good either. A person can augment sales via quantity. Imagine. $2 per ebook, now imagine selling 1,000 ebooks. You got $2,000 easily. Suppose just 100 of those folks suggest your ebook to others, toss on another $200. This can grow serious revenue exponentially in a short time. It's also good for long haul too, your book is never out of print and can keep on selling.

E-publishing is the way to go. I sent out all the usual query letters to agents and publishers but only got one semi-interested reply--after I had it all set up on Amazon. And the good thing about e-publishing with CreateSpace and Kindle is that you still own your work so you're not trapped in any way. Using open source software, Gimp and OpenOffice, I had bit of a learning curve but was able to put my paperback together myself for free. There's a free .pdf called "Build Your Book" available from the CS site that gives all the details. Getting your book to work well on Kindle is not as easy as they make it sound. A lot of books look awful on the system. It took bit of experimenting to get it right. My biggest expense was hiring a professional editor but I looked on that as a high-level professional writing course. Well worth the money for a beginning author.

And I think v_d hit the nail on the head about e-books remaining in print. Traditional publishers pay an advance, print a bunch of books, sell as many as they can, then let all their stuff go out of print. Ten years from now, I expect my book will still be available on Amazon.

I write mainly short-erotic stories, I'd be interested in writing something seriously. My stories are in my profile, if you'd be interested :)

You can call me ben, joe, fred, george, mop jockey, void, the dead one, medic, "hey asshole", basket case, scout. Please don't call me a venereal disease. My name is actually ben although I deny it. I'm one of those tall dark and quiet sorts what fits in nearly anywhere, survives.

I used to think it would be fun to write up my fantasies for publication, or as the script for a porn movie. The problem was that I thought they were too kinky and perverted for anyone to publish. Now I know that I'm not alone in having these desires, and many of my fantasies have been made into movies by others.

Book title: "Grasslands." Sub-title: "13 Stories of Bisexual adventure." Try that.

Hey Thatcher , I did the Amazon Kindle for PC thing and bought your book Grasslands . I am in the middle of reading it now and I am enjoying it very much . I entered Grasslands/13 stories and it took me right to it . I am not much of a recreational reader , but I like this one . This digital book reading is new to me . I keep licking my finger to turn the page ! I just finished the Grasslands chapter . Very good so far . Just my 2 cents worth of opinion .
