View Full Version : Costume Ideas?

I am trying to come up with ideas for a Halloween costume for my husband. He is hard to get to dress up for Halloween, but has agreed to do something, just as long as it isn't too crazy. Any ideas? (please nothing sexual)

Here's an easy costume for him.I promise it will get many laughs. It won me a costume contest once.
Take a white tee shirt and on it affix a capital P, black would stick out best.
Next darken around his eyes with black makeup or whatever you want to use.
And there you have have it...He'll be a Black Eyed P

I suppose it depends on whether you intend hiring a costume or making one yourself.

Various face masks are easy to pick up, but become hot and sweaty to wear after a short time. You could stick to face paint and have him make up as Dracula or a skeleton or some such. Remember the character in the Bond film that rose up out of the grave with a skull painted on his face? It looked effective.

I am considering making him a zombie, but I don't know how he will deal with the makeup and latex and such. I make all my costumes, I don't buy bag ones or rent them, so I am looking for a more made at home thing. I thought about Stephen Colbert, but I know how he hates wearing suits. P.S. I don't know what you are talking about with James Bond, I have only seen 1 or 2 of them and I really don't like that sort of movie.

Have him go as Paula Deen! She's the scariest thing on television! http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_CvmWwMISlO4/TIuxK3LZSwI/AAAAAAAACUA/Q9y0Iy76Nz8/s1600/605a6401b435151b_Paula_deen_quiz.xlarger.jpg

The particular Bond film I was referring to starred Roger Moore and Jane Seymour, it was set in Haiti, the character in question was called Baron Carmodi I think, the supposed Lord of the Undead. The costume looked fairly easy to make, and the make-up looked simple to apply but very effective. You could probably hire the film on DVD cheaply to see the character and effect yourself, then copy it.

I like designing my own clothes and for a halloween party several years ago designed a very dark green satin swishy evening gown. At the stroke of midnight the press studs down the front, hidden by some discreetly placed satin decoration were ripped open and the gown fell away to reveal underneath my proper black and red witchy dress, which if I may say so showed me off to very good effect and went down very well with the surprised assembled witches and warlocks.

Oh and by the way guys, he cannot do drag because we will be hanging out with some of his coworkers and he wouldn't want to dress in drag anyways.

I have a great old one and it is super for opening conversations... I go as the
"Devil's Advocate" I dress in black (pants, T and sports coat), add a set of horns (I have an awesome ceramic set I got at a Ren Fest one year) and some evil jewelry (I have some fake barbed wire that I made a bracelet and necklace out of). Sunglasses, or better yet, old welding glasses finish it off.

The kicker is the business cards that I print. They usually have my first name and Devil's Advocate on the front, maybe a graphic (Devil's head, etc), and a goofy address (i.e. 9th Circle of Hell, 3rd Floor), and on the back "Your Ass is Mine"

I've used it twice and plan on it this year (we are going to the Halloween Party at the local swinger's club. The horns get the attention and the card opens the conversation).

It is simple, comfortable, gets a lot of attention for a simple costume and the card opens conversations.

It's a keeper :-)

Your bio on this site gives only yr age & an unpleasant "straight arm" to anyone who wouldst approach you. Without my being judgmental, if you want to GET free advice, then it might help to GIVE SOME:

............ reveal yourself a little, to show your maturity.

Alt. disguises: both of you, nude, but for 2 earrings which state: "I AM ANONYMOUS IN USA, NO CITY, NO ID."

Not a flame posting but a wish expressed here, that if anybody wants to chat with you, then it sucks to present yourself, as selfish & one sided.

Really? C'mon, but I really don't feel comfortable giving out that sort of information. It has nothing about maturity, it has everything about being safe. I have had problems with giving out even that amount of information in the past, so don't accuse me of immaturity. I have had online stalkers before and even had one show up at my house before so excuse me from not giving out my location and name. The only reason I added a personal ad at all was to help stop the sexually harassing emails. It seems to me you are just really being a jerk for the sake of being one.

If you want simple, a lightning bolt on his forehead and a pair of spectacles a naff hairstyle and a boring jumper and he could go as Harry Potter. If he is tall and burly he can always say he magicked himself tall and burly.

Go as something scary. Hallowe'en is supposed to be scary. This year I'm going as a kick ass Grim Reaper. I love Hallowe'en! I'm going to hide behind a tombstone I set up on the front lawn and with my fog machine and strobe light, scare the crap out of the kiddies. Bwaa haa haa!!!!!

For some reason I think that some people did not read the original post. This is not for me, it is for my husband and I need some more simple suggestions that are not sexual, not drag (we will be hanging out with his work friends and he wouldn't go for that anyways), and not elaborate. He is very hard to get to dress up and I just need some suggestions as I am not used to doing the whole simple costume thing.

Interestingly, one of the programs I watch sometimes, InsiderEdition, was on tonight and talked about the hottest costume for this Halloween, "Charlie Sheen", apparently even Charlie Sheen bought a mask to wear tweeting "this should confuse the kids"

If campy humor works, how about going as one of the 1960's Batman tv show Penguin's henchmen?

Black derby
Black longsleeve tee shirt with white letters across the chest saying "HENCHMAN".
Black slacks, belt, socks, and shoes.

No mask or makeup needed.

And he doesn't have to say anything. He can just stand in the background.

How about Frankenstein's Monster? It shouldn't be too difficult and is not likely to offend the sensibilities of his work colleagues. Or Dracula would be easy too although not very original. What did he wear in previous years?

A Mummy would be easy too, just lots of bandages, but if they unravel during the night, someone might trip over them and injure themselves. I understood you to say you were adept at making your own costumes, if not it might be simpler just to hire one, or buy one at a store.

He couldn't dress up the previous year at all because he was working the whole day and night.

Ok, so being a bunch of grapes was a bad ideal. And I get the fact it's not about you that you want to dress up but your husband. First off what's he into to movie wise?. He could always dress up as a Cowboy or perhaps a Pirate, Zorro would be awesome. I love Halloween it's my favorite time of the year next to Christmas.. Anyway have fun take care.

Ok...here's what I did pone year. I had to come up with something at the last minute and couldn't rent anything. So...I put a trash bag on with a hole for my arms and head....then I taped paper plates and tissues and a few empty plastic water bottles to me and went as "Trash man"...I would go up to the padies and ask if they wanted to talk trash....also avoid smokers as you are a fire hazard. NOt great, but works in a pinch. I won an award for ingenuity and home made costume.

Ok we have decided on Cowboy. He already has a cowboy hat, boots, jeans and his flannel shirt. He looks super hot in his riding jeans. The funny thing is that he looks kind of like Jake Gyllenhaal, so I will probably be thinking about Brokeback Mountain the whole time. lol.

had one guy come to a company halloween party that we were the band for... and there was one guy that was just dressed normally, walking around glaring at everybody, grunting and just being really obnoxious..... yet people were laughing their heads off and complimenting him...

I mentioned it to the barman at the club, cos the company had hired out the bar for the party.... and the barman told me that he had come as the boss......

it goes down in my mind, as one of the best halloween costumes ever

Amen, Darkside! Why would I be so afraid of a cowboy that I would give him candy, lest he terrorize my soul? I'd just call the police. By contrast, in the case of a zombie attack, I think 911 would be the last number I'd think to call.

I may have been born here...but I swear it wasn't my fault!

Seriously, Jo...if you can barely get him to dress up at Halloween, are you absolutely certain he's really a keeper? ;) [And I heartily recommend you tell him I asked.:tong:]
