The weather in the San Francisco bay area has been unseasonably cool this summer, but today finally looked promising enough to take a chance at the coast and spend some time at Red Rock, a beautiful local nude beach in Marin. Even though the sun never quite poked through the low clouds (half-mile inland was sunny 80 degree weather), it was still a great day. I guess we beat the Labor Day crowd because besides my wife, her friend, and myself there were probably only a dozen other people--virtually all guys.
So here's the thing: one guy decided to spread his towel at the the edge of the cove. It's a rather small beach but there was a lot of elbow room today. A few minutes later I happened to notice that he was on his back sporting some serious wood. I mean straight up Apollo-we-have-liftoff kind of stuff. Okay. That's cool. There were no kids on the beach and it wasn't as if he plopped himself in the middle of things, though he wasn't trying to hide anything.
My question to all of you who frequent nude beaches is whether--under these circumstances--you would find a guy with an erection to be inappropriate. I have mixed feelings. On one hand, nudism isn't typically overtly sexual. Red Rock is a public beach that commonly attracts families. On the other hand, a nude beach can be sexually stimulating, and the sight of a guy with a stiff cock can't be that rare.
Just wondering. BTW, have a great Labor Day weekend everyone!

Well, interesting situation you were in. Yes it is a public nude beach and yes there is a certain etiquette in the nudist camp which should be the same to all public area's. That is if a male get an erection for any reason he should cover up with towel or roll over until the erection subsides.

As Tony said, cover it up. There is a time and place for these things, and that isn't it!

We all know the established etymology but one cannot help wondering where the name "Surf Woody" really came from for George Barris' custom creation.
Generally a male erection in a public nudism area is not a good idea. The Thought Police might use any opportunity despite our social advances.
Attractive as it might be, the man should have had the common sense to go away and get rid of it either with a friend or by himself rather than create a tent. Maybe he was half asleep / just awaking (early morning woody)?

I wondered if the guy was 'advertising' in a way. At one point he seemed to disappear behind some rocks for awhile but I don't know if he was alone. Not that it matters, but the guy was pretty good looking and his cock was quite a piece of work.
My feeling is that this kind of thing invites a police presence. A year or two ago California declared that it would begin enforcing clothing regulations. Nudism is actually illegal on state beaches. And sexual conduct is a big no-no (although there is at least one private beach where that sort of thing is okay).

1. No open staring.
2. Absolutely No Pointing and chuckling or laughing.
3. No drooling.
4. And the most important: If you are going to be laying there in the sun with a massave hard on, make sure to wear sun screen....Snicker.

There is a nude beach on the Toronto Island called Hanlon's Point. I've not been there but I've heard stories about what can go on. I agree that at Nudist Parks, cover up is expected. However, at Hanlon's it seems to be part of "the game" as long as you are in a more remote section. Generally, I'm told that going into the bushes happens between men. Couples might invite a third guy over after putting on a little show. but I'm suspecting that the stories are less common in real life. "Stuff" does go on according to rumours. Nudity goes on there for sure.

San Gregorio beach south of Half Moon Bay is a long-standing place for gay hookups. I guess the beach has driftwood shelters, etc. Sexual behavior is pretty much standard operating procedure. At other beaches around here, discretion is the key.
Generally, nude beaches are so relaxing. I don't know why more people don't go to em. Red Rock, for instance, is only a mile from Stinson beach, which is clothed, crowded, and miserable to park around on a weekend.

I've been to Hanlon's Point quite a few times. And I have seen the occasion wood there too, but only occasionally. The guy was usually sleeping and might not have realised it. Wood happens. Even happened to me. but I've always flipped over till it subsided.
I've never seen anything sexual going on, though that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. The times I've been there there were both sexes present, and even a few families with nude kids too. And every time I've been there, there was a staffed information table from the FCN (Friends of Canadian Naturists). I like going nude in nature. It's just so liberating.

I live over the road from a nudist beach n visit every day.
Errections are normal and shud b covered.
The erections are usually on adolesent males, The meercat wankers or gays here.
Peeps who do not follow the gentle rules are asked to cover up or are banned from the beach by the lifeguards.
The beach is a big tourist resort and is packed with families, couples, singles and the men who come to letch all summer n some in the winter.
Nudism in the snow can be fun but chilly n not many erections.
So it just disrespectful 2 others to have a erection n not cover.

...meercat wankers....
Ha!! A perfect moniker. Outstanding.
Lifeguards? Staffed information tables? Gee, all we have are prudes and gawkers in wife-beaters with Madonna-whore complexes.

I can't speak for California, but in the Northeast any type of sexual conduct is strictly banned on nude beaches. Not that the authorities are coming around on patrol, but the beaches are self-policed by beach users, who either view such people as perverts or else realize that sexual conduct is what gets nude beaches shut down.

I have been to two nudist resorts, one in Naples, Florida and the other in West Virginia. I was so anxious going to Florida the first time. I had brought some gay magazines for the friend I was with thinking it was nothing. Well....how wrong. He told me that the resort strickly frowns on any sexual contact. If you are caught touching, you will be asked to leave. Not to return either. Avalon, a family resort which had a wide variety of locations within the resort as a whole, was a little more tollerant of kissing and cuddling in the pools.
